Youth leaders challenged to produce authentic disciples

More than 230 youth leaders from The Wesleyan Church heard a “State of the Wesleyan Youth Movement” address during a February 16-18, 2012, FUEL training in Louisville, Kentucky. FUEL is the annual training event for Wesleyan youth pastors and volunteers.

Cornerstone offers vow renewal services on Valentine’s Day

Staff and parishioners at Cornerstone Wesleyan Church in Apache Junction, Arizona, believe in the sanctity of marriage, and they reinforced it by offering a Valentine’s Day service to married couples.

This year, the church hosted its inaugural event of renewing wedding vows on Valentine’s Day. Lead Pastor Bob Lenz said couples took advantage of renewing their vows while more than 50 people attended the ceremonies hosted by the church.

Record number from Moncton Wesleyan travels for missions

For the first time in Moncton Wesleyan Church’s history, the number of men, women, and teenagers who traveled on short-term missions trips has exceeded 100.

Rev. Dave Steeves, Moncton’s pastor of student ministries and missions, reported that 102 individuals traveled on four different missions trips in 2011.

A robot created by Team 2751 of Pickens County sinks a basket during a robotics scrimmage Feb. 18 at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.Robots took over the auditorium of Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center on an obstacle course resembling a basketball court. Team 415 was composed of a group of students in the Wren District of Anderson County.

On the third Monday of February, the United States government officially recognizes Presidents’ Day as a federal holiday. The day originally honored the birthday of George Washington, the first President of the United States, whose birth date is February 22. Now the day is one on which we recognize the leaders whom God has put in place to serve the people of our nation.

Josh McDowell’s Legacy Collection at OKWU

Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s Drake University will soon house the complete works of a well-known Christian apologist.

The complete published works of Christian apologist and activist Josh McDowell, entitled the Josh McDowell Legacy Collection, will be added to the Drake Library on February 24, the same day on which McDowell will speak at OKWU’s chapel.

Skip Lord stepping down as Houghton women’s coach

Coach Harold “Skip” Lord has piloted the Highlanders women’s basketball program since his arrival at Houghton College 25 years ago. Lord has faithfully served as both coach and athletic director, and will move into the full-time role of executive director of athletics next year.
